You may or may not have guessed it, but I’m a very visual person! I love good design, photography and typography. I also love Pinterest. I’ve always loved the concept behind the “vision board” and have accumulated several scrapbooks over the years for everything from planning my corporate wardrobe when I finally landed my first gig in big North Sydney Ad Agency, to all things interior design when renovating my first “fixer upper”.
So when I discovered Pinterest, I thought all my Christmases had come at once: a platform that combines my love of vision boards (scrapbooking for the oldies lol) and my love of my MacBook Pro!
Pinterest is a very visual social platform, but good old plain words still have a place on most users' boards. Funny, thought-provoking or Inspirational, the Pinterest quote has become an art form in its own right.
But there is no need to pin plain, grainy, black and white text images with no attempt at artistry whatsoever. You don’t have to be a Photoshop whiz, there are lots of apps and tools to help you add design flair to you quote posts.
Here I’ve picked three that I think are quite good. So go ahead, pull out your favourite Albert Einstein quote, bring it back to life and pin it to your board with renewed flair and enthusiasm!
This app is one of the ultimate tools for "Pinstaholics". Not only does Pinstamatic create quotes — it creates anything you could ever want to pin. Spotify tracks, maps, web pages, tweets, and more.
Its basic quotes feature allows you to pick from 12 different fonts and background combinations, add your quote and then pin it to your board. It may not allow for much customisation, but it's an easy way to make your quote more visually appealing and will make it more likely to be re-pinned by other users.
Pinwords is designed to add pizazz to your otherwise lifeless quotes. This app allows you the option to upload a photo or pick one of four set backgrounds.
From there, you can select six different font formatting options, including typewriter and tape, which you can arrange however you like over your background. Just add the text once you have everything in position. As soon as you're finished, you can pin your quote instantly — saving you both time and effort.
This photo editing app helps you design everything from custom photos to quote images for your board. Simply upload your chosen photo as the background for your quote and enhance it using the many editing tools the site offers.
From there, you can add text in a variety of fonts and shades, changing them to best fit the background, and either share the finished product or save it to your Mac or PC. You can also download the app for Google Chrome, which, by the way, is my all time favourite web browser (so long Safari, it was fun for a while...).
