Does Your Small Business Really Need A Website?

Some small business owners that I meet ask me “do I really need a website? I have a Facebook page, won’t that do?”…

My answer is always a resounding YES and NO! YES you need a website and NO, a Facebook page alone is not enough.

Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE Facebook. But you don’t OWN your Facebook page, Facebook does. And what Facebook giveth, Facebook can also taketh away...

But a website you DO own and a website can mean two very important things for a small business: visibility and credibility.

In this day and age, most people will go online and research products and services and the companies who offer them, before they make a purchase. If you don’t have a website, you’re missing out on all those potential customers who are online, either on their smart phone, tablet or desktop computer.

A website is also important because it helps you establish credibility as a business. Your website is the first impression online customers will get of your business, so your website should look professional as well as being functional, it should tell the customer who you are, what you do and why they should do business with you. The content on your website should be useful and informative and always employ a clear Call To Action.

In 2014 you’d think everybody would have a website. Surprisingly I meet a lot of small business owners who don’t have one and when I ask why, the answer is more often than not “I can’t afford one, they’re too expensive”.
