Many small businesses find the word “marketing” overwhelming. They hear an imaginary “cha ching cha ching” sound ringing in their ears, because the perception is that marketing equals big dollars… which most small business owners or start ups just don’t have. At SDS, we believe marketing shouldn’t cost you a bundle.
Here are five ways you can market your small business on a shoestring budget.
1. Create a Google My Business Account
A Google My Business account is a necessity if you want your business to show up on local search, on Google Maps and Google+. It’s quick and easy to set up and best of all, it’s FREE!
2. Add Awesome Content to Your Blog
Blogs are so important for so many reasons. Adding content to the blog on your website is great for SEO. You can direct visitors to your blog via email marketing to foster relationships with your audience and capture leads. Be sure the content you post is interesting and meets the needs of your audience.
3. Guest Blog & Comment on Blogs
Guest blogging on sites that are synergistic can be a great way to reach a new audience. Make sure you include your bio with a link to your own blog/website.
Furthermore, leaving insightful and helpful comments on blogs is a great way to showcase your own expertise and gain exposure by the blog followers.
4. Build An Email List
If you’ve ever read my blog before, you’ll know I’m a BIG fan of email marketing and I believe every small business should have an email list! There are several free or inexpensive email apps available. My favourite is MailChimp which is free for businesses with less than 2,000 subscribers. Or check out newcomer Send In Blue who let you send up to 40,000 emails per month for around $10.
5. Create a Facebook group
Facebook Groups are free and are a great way to connect with prospects. Your Facebook Group should provide solutions and meet needs. It shouldn’t be about your business. If you’re a Hairdresser, you could create a Group called “Hair Lovers” and post content about hair care and styling hacks.
